Trekking Tour: #NV-2

SOUTHERN SHAN STATE HILLTRIBES

(2 Nights / 3 Days)

Destination : Pindaya

Day 1 – Pindaya-Yasakyi (6 hours)

Walk to the market in the early morning and buy all the provision for your three-day trek. Start with a walk through the hills for one hour to Htut Ni, village of the Danu tribe. You will pass through hillside farms where the Danu cultivate cheroot, tea, damsons and mangoes. The track crosses the valley floor before climbing very steeply again (approximately three hours) to another Danu village, named See Kya Inn, where we will stop for a simple lunch. Walk another two hours to Yasakyi, another Danu village. In the afternoon, observe tribal village life and how the Palaung people dry cheroots in a specially designed oven. Simple dinner and accommodation at Yasakyi Monastery.

Day 2 – Yasakyi-Kan Hla Kone (6 hours)

Enjoy a simple breakfast before continuing your walk through the hills for one hour to Lin Lay Inn, a Danu village. The Danu here cultivate peanut, corn, ginger, potatoes and cauliflower on the hillsides. Continue for two hours to Me Ne Taung, a Pa-O village, where you can have a simple lunch and a chat with the village people. Then, walk for another three hours to Kan Hla Kone for our overnight stop. Simple dinner and accommodation at Kan Hla Kone village.

Day 3 – Kan Hla Kone-Pindaya (3.5 hours)

Enjoy a simple breakfast before walking one hour to Htin Shuee Kone and an additional 1.5 hours to Taung Paw Gyi, where they produce Shan tea in the traditional way. You will see the drying of the tealeaves and pass through the tea plantations. From the hills you will get great views of the surrounding Shan plateau. Return to Pindaya, a one hour walk, where you can visit the caves or the town. Arrive at your hotel.

Note: Not recommended during rainy season (start of June to end of September). Your guide will be English speaking with knowledge of the local area. We buy food for the whole trip in Pindaya. In the villages you walk through, you cannot buy anything. There are no shops, restaurants, telephones etc. You will sleep in monasteries where everybody sleeps in the same room, with little privacy, and men and woman are in separate parts of the room. There are showers or bathrooms where you have to wash together with the other people. Usually there is a large water pot and you wear a sarong and pour water over yourself. For the trekking the following items are essential: sleeping bag, good walking shoes, warm jacket and clothes (nights can be very chilly), sarong and towels, first aid kit, mosquito repellent and mosquito net.

Note: Private tour: Daily departure from Pindaya with English speaking locally station guides.
