After breakfast, visit the Water Buffalo Market on the southern side of the town on the road to Taunggyi. Because water buffalos are not found in many countries, the twice-weekly market is usually of considerable interest. After that, drive for about 45 minutes to the Pin Tauk area, where you can visit villages of the Akha and Eng tribes. Some are baptised, while others are still animist. The Eng are an ethnic group that tourists find particularly interesting, labelling them the “black teeth” for their stained teeth. They live on the higher slopes and have quite distinctive dress and customs from the other tribes. The walk is not difficult and can be done slowly, usually taking about four hours. Afterwards, drive back to the hotel and relax.
Day 3 – Kyaing Tong
Breakfast at the hotel ahead of your full-day excursion to a Loi village. Drive approximately two hours on the road to Mong La, a town on the Chinese border. Before visiting the Loi you can also see a very old, beautiful and distinctive monastery. Another hour from Wan Nyunt is the Loi village of Wan Seng. The scenery is beautiful and hiking not difficult. Afterwards return to Kyaing Tong and overnight at Hotel.
Day 4 – Kyaing Tong
Breakfast at your hotel. Depending on your flight departure time, visit the colourful local market, which is a gathering place for people of the region’s different ethnic groups, including the Ahku, Ahka, Palaung, Ann and Lahu. Check out of your hotel and transfer to Kyaing Tong airport OR drive to Tachiliek, a town on the Myanmar-Thai border (four hours) for your departure flight.
